The New Jersey Devils are working on another deal to sign Ilya Kovalchuk. Less than 24 hours after an arbitrator ruled that the NHL acted correctly in voiding Kovalchuk's landmark $102 million contract with New Jersey, team president and general manager Lou Lamoriello said the Devils will continue working to re-sign the high scoring Russian.

The Montreal Canadiens traded minor league goaltender Cedrick Desjardins to the Tampa Bay Lightning for goalie Karri Ramo on Monday. In 90 games with Montreal's AHL affiliate in Hamilton, Ontario, Desjardins was 49-27-5 with 2.34 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. He was an AHL All-Star last season while going 29-9-2.

The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed veteran defenseman Nick Boynton to a one-year deal. Boynton, acquired from Anaheim in a trade last March, played seven regular-season games and three games in the Stanley Cup finals for Chicago against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was on the ice when Patrick Kane scored the winning goal in Game 6.

The Blue Jackets have signed forward Ben Guite to a one-year contract. General manager Scott Howson announced the signing Wednesday. Terms were not revealed. The 32-year-old Guite was scoreless with four penalty minutes in six games with the Nashville Predators last season. He also played with Milwaukee of the American Hockey League, where he had eight goals and 13 assists in 64 games.
